The Public Service Commission (PSC) is closing applications for its internship program today, October 29, 2019.
Launched last month, the 12-month program aims to recruit 3,600 interns, who will be awarded a certificate upon successful completion.
According to reports, an average of 3,000 staff exit the public service every year, with no significant number of youth taking up the vacant spots.
Public Service PS Margaret Kobia noted that about 20% of the workforce will retire in two to three years, citing the need for young talent to fill the gap.
Kenyan universities produce over 50,000 graduates annually, but the PSC internship program requires applicants to have a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university and proficiency in computer skills.
Applicants must also have graduated from college not earlier than 2015 and be willing to complete duties assigned by supervisors, document relevant skills, and participate in mentorship activities.
Applications are to be done online through the commission's job portal, and successful candidates will be given a stipend determined by the commission.
