Kenya Power Appoints Bernard Ngugi as New CEO

Kenya Power has appointed Bernard Ngugi as its new Managing Director and CEO, effective October 28, 2019. Ngugi takes over from Eng. Jared Othieno, who had been acting in the role since July 2018.

Ngugi, a seasoned executive with over 30 years of experience, has expertise in financial and revenue accounting, internal audit, and supply chain management. He holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting.

Ngugi has a strong background in the energy sector, having worked at Kenya Power for over three decades. He is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya. He is also a Certified Public Secretary of Kenya and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya.

Ngugi's appointment comes after a competitive recruitment process, and he has expressed his commitment to leading the company towards improved profitability and sustainability. He has thanked the interim management team led by Eng. Othieno for stabilizing the company after the crisis occasioned by the exit of the previous management team.

Kenya Power's Chairman, Amb (Eng) Mahboub Maalim, has welcomed Ngugi's appointment, stating that he believes Ngugi will see the company through an important stage of its development and growth.

Ngugi's appointment is seen as a significant move towards stabilizing the company and implementing its 5-Year Strategic Plan, which aims to deliver excellent customer service and ensure business sustainability.
