On October 29, 2019, a chaotic scene unfolded at the Likoni ferry in Kenya as a battery explosion sent passengers scrambling for safety.

A faulty phone battery caught fire among the passengers on board MV Harambee, prompting a male passenger to quickly throw it into the water to prevent further danger.

The incident resulted in minor bruises to the left arm and wrist of the victim, who was fortunate to escape with minimal injuries.

The ferry, MV Harambee, had earlier hit the docking ramp and got stuck for about 30 minutes, causing a disruption in services as Kenya Ferry Services officials made frantic efforts to tow the vessel.

This incident comes just a month after the tragic death of Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu, who drowned after their vehicle slipped off the ferry and plunged into the sea.
