Kenya Power has announced a major initiative to reduce scheduled power outages, with a Ksh.2 billion project aimed at improving the reliability of the country's power supply.
According to Kenya Power MD Jared Othieno, customers have long been demanding stable and reliable power supply, and the company is committed to meeting this demand.
Speaking on Monday, Othieno noted that the project is in partnership with the World Bank, which has provided Ksh. 2 billion for staff training and the purchase of equipment.
As part of the project, a pilot program saw 70 staff trained on how to maintain live power lines, resulting in a 40% reduction in planned shutdowns.
With the full implementation of the program, Kenya Power estimates that power outages will be significantly reduced, allowing for more reliable and stable power supply to customers.
