On 29 October 2019, US Soccer named Vlatko Andonovski as the new head coach of the United States women's football team, replacing Jill Ellis who had taken charge of her final game on 6 October.
Andonovski, who was born in North Macedonia, has led National Women's Soccer League side Reign FC in Seattle for the past two seasons, earning him two NWSL Coach of the Year awards in 2013 and 2019.
US Soccer president Carlos Cordeiro praised Andonovski, saying, "I can't imagine a more perfect match than this coach for this team at this moment in time."
Andonovski takes over immediately and will lead the side for the first time against Sweden on 7 November, before facing Costa Rica on 10 November in a friendly match.
After the friendly against Costa Rica, the US will begin their qualifying campaign for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at the end of January.
Andonovski has a strong connection to the team, having coached US forward and FIFA Player of the Year Megan Rapinoe, along with England striker Jodie Taylor and Wales international Jess Fishlock, at Reign FC.
Andonovski expressed his excitement about the new role, saying, "It's a huge honour and I'm very excited to get started with this group of players and staff as we work towards continued success."
