William Ruto Offers Full Scholarship to Egerton University Student ¶
Deputy President William Ruto has offered a full scholarship to Wilson Wakibia, a student from a humble background, to study at Egerton University.
Wakibia, who previously studied at Bukura Agricultural College, was the overall best student at the institution.
According to Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici, who shared the news on her Twitter page, the scholarship was awarded to Wakibia on October 28, 2019.
Ngirici expressed her gratitude to Ruto for the gesture, stating that her office is dedicated to lobbying and providing opportunities for students from humble backgrounds to earn an education endowment.
Wakibia, who hails from Mwea, Tebere, started his diploma at Bukura Agricultural College in Kakamega and was the overall best student.
The move has generated a mixed reaction from netizens, with some praising Ruto for the gesture while others have termed it a 'public relations' exercise.
It is worth noting that Ruto has a history of helping students from humble backgrounds, including Ikolomani MP Bernard Shinali, whom he helped tie his shoes in December 2018.
