On October 27, 2019, Akothee won the Best Female in East Africa Award, but her makeup drew negative attention from fans and critics.
Many fans urged her to fire her makeup artist, calling the look a 'disaster.'
Akothee responded to the criticism, stating that she had only a few minutes to prepare for the event and that she prioritized her performance over her makeup.
She asked fans to focus on congratulating her on her award rather than criticizing her appearance.
She wrote on Instagram, 'I DID MY OWN MAKE UP NOW COME BEAT ME, BUT I AM HOLDING POSITION EAST AFRICA QUEEN 2019???? if I waited for the professional make up artists I would have missed my 6minutes performance?? which one is more important?l?♂️?♂️???, Because you all know how beautiful I am with or without make up????'
Akothee also emphasized the importance of her fans' support, saying, 'without you I would not be Akothee.there is no Artist without a fan base, it doesn't matter how they support you, but what matters is Results of their support.'
