Kenya Power has announced the appointment of Bernard Ngugi as its new Managing Director and CEO, effective October 28, 2019. This appointment comes after Eng. Jared Otieno served as the Acting Managing Director and CEO since July 2018.
Mr. Ngugi, a seasoned executive with over 30 years of experience in Kenya Power, has expertise in financial and revenue accounting, internal audit, and supply chain management. He holds a Master's degree in Business Administration in Finance and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, and is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya.
According to Mr. Ngugi, his immediate focus will be to lead the company towards profitability and ensure that Kenya Power achieves its socio-economic aims through the company's 5-year strategic plan. The plan aims to deliver the best customer service and business sustainability.
Kenya Power Chairman Amb(Eng) Mahboub Maalim expressed confidence in Mr. Ngugi's ability to steer the company through its development and growth, as it works towards implementing plans to strengthen the commercial aspects of the business.
