On October 26, 2019, the 6th annual African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMAs) took place in Dallas, Texas, recognizing African artists for their unique talents and achievements.

Kenyan songbird Esther Akoth, better known as Akothee, claimed the title of the best female artiste in East Africa at the prestigious awards.

Akothee beat other big names in the region, including compatriots Victoria Kimani and Fena Gitu, and the Tanzanian duo of Vanessa Mdee and Nandy, to clinch the coveted title.

Kimani was the previous year's winner of this title, but Akothee's talent and hard work earned her the top spot.

Other notable winners at the AFRIMMAs included Mzazi Willy M. Tuva, who grabbed the award for Africa's best radio and TV presenter, and DJ Posion Ivy, who is the first female Kenyan DJ to work with the NBA franchise.
