On Monday, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Director for African Department, Mr Abebe Selassie, paid a courtesy call to President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi. The visit coincided with the launch of the IMF's Regional Economic Outlook report for Sub Saharan Africa, themed 'Navigating Uncertainty.'

Mr Abebe commended President Kenyatta for his leadership in the fight against corruption, stating that Kenya is on the right path. He noted that the country's stable economic growth, averaging between 5.5 percent and 6.0 percent, is a result of the ongoing fiscal reforms implemented by the Kenyan Government to ensure macroeconomic stability.

“Because of this, Kenya is a leading light in terms of economic reforms and growth in the region,” Mr Abebe said.

During the meeting, President Kenyatta thanked the IMF for its technical support, emphasizing the institution's key role in the stability of the country's economy. He expressed the government's commitment to a stronger partnership with the IMF, as it implements programs aimed at uplifting the lives of Kenyans.

Mr Abebe introduced Mr Tobias Rasmussen, the new IMF Kenya Resident Representative, who will replace Mr Jan Mikkelsen whose tenure ended on September 13th this year. President Kenyatta assured the IMF officials that his door is always open for discussions that benefit the country.
