On October 28, 2019, Kenya Power Acting Managing Director Jared Othieno flagged off 32 trucks to the utility firm's operational regions across the country, marking the countrywide roll-out of the live maintenance program.

The initiative, first introduced on a pilot basis in 2016, involved the training of 70 staff to conduct maintenance of live power lines. The program aims to strengthen the electricity network and streamline internal processes to improve customer experience and stakeholder confidence.

Speaking at the launch ceremony at Ruaraka in Nairobi, Mr. Othieno stated, 'The company is focused on the provision of quality power supply by strengthening the electricity network and streamlining the internal process to improve customer experience and stakeholder confidence.'

The World Bank is funding the new phase of the program to the tune of Sh2 billion, following the first phase which was implemented at a cost of Sh720 million.

With the launch of the live maintenance program, consumers can expect relief from frequent blackouts caused by the firm's generation shortfalls and an ageing grid.
