Kenya Airways (KQ) has been flying non-stop to New York's JFK International Airport since October 28, 2019. The airline has so far carried 105,000 passengers on the route, achieving a cabin factor of 75 percent within the first year.
However, the carrier's cargo business has not seen significant growth. Sebastian Mikosz, KQ Chief Executive, attributed this to the airline's decision to use the bellies of passenger planes for cargo, limiting its capacity to handle large volumes or urgent cargo.
"There is a good amount of cargo between the US and Africa. We have managed to build a small cargo business, with clients including the US Government and some logistic companies," Mikosz said.
Despite this, the airline remains optimistic about its cargo prospects, with plans to market the service in the coming weeks.
