On October 28, 2019, British lawmakers dealt a blow to Prime Minister Boris Johnson's efforts to break the Brexit deadlock by rejecting his bid for an early general election on December 12.
Johnson's proposal, which required the backing of two-thirds of the 650 MPs, failed to secure the necessary support, with 299 MPs voting in favor and 70 against.
