On October 24, 2019, a shocking discovery was made at Kifaru apartments in South B estate, Nairobi, when a caretaker reported a lifeless body emitting a pungent odor from a house.

The police broke into the house and found the body of Emmanuel Solomon Inyama, a standard six pupil at Riara Academy, in a decomposing state.

Ann Inyama, a lecturer at the University of Nairobi's School of Nursing, was arrested and detained at the Industrial area police station for further investigations.

According to an affidavit filed at the Makadara law courts, detective Dickens Ondingo requested for the court to detain Inyama for 10 more days to allow for further investigations and a psychiatric assessment.

“The investigations are complex and the suspect’s mental status seems impaired. She needs to be taken before a psychiatrist for assessment,” Ondingo said.

Appearing before senior principal magistrate Angelo Githinji, Inyama did not object to the prosecution's application but raised concerns about the 10-day period, terming it long and unnecessary.

She will appear before the court on November 5, 2019.
