On October 28, 2019, Diageo's Guinness brand made its mark in the Kenyan market with the introduction of Guinness Smooth, a new stout that promises to revolutionize the way Kenyans enjoy their beer.

Developed by the Guinness master brewers in Dublin, Guinness Smooth is a distinctive, flavorful beer that boasts the perfect balance of sweet and bitter notes to achieve smoothness and refreshment that everyone can enjoy.

Speaking at the launch, Kennedy Mwangi, Head Brewer at Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), revealed that many of the ingredients used to brew the beer are sourced locally, giving it a unique taste that resonates with Kenyan consumers.

“Guinness Smooth is brewed using only the finest natural ingredients, many of which are sourced locally. With the coffee and rich notes from the roasted barley marrying with a fruity, butterscotch flavor from the brewing process, Guinness Smooth is truly unique,” Mwangi said.

The beer, which has been in existence since 2003, is identified as a softer version of Guinness that still retains its refreshing effect. It will be available in Kenya for the first time, with an ABV of 4.5% and a recommended serving temperature of between 3°C and 7°C.

Guinness Smooth will retail at Kshs. 160 per 500ml bottle and will be launched initially in Kisumu with a wide range of sampling opportunities. According to Nduku Wamakau, Guinness Marketing Director at KBL, the new launch continues the Guinness commitment to bring consumers flavorful beers that they can enjoy in more occasions.

“Guinness has a centuries-long tradition of brewing distinctive, extraordinary beers and Guinness Smooth is no different. Our latest launch continues the Guinness commitment to bring consumers flavorful beers which they can enjoy in more occasions. We will be launching initially in Kisumu with a wide range of sampling opportunities, so if you’re looking for something delicious and refreshing to enjoy when you’re out catching up with friends, give Guinness Smooth a try,” Wamakau commented.
