Airtel Africa Sees Growth in Customer Base and Revenue

Airtel Africa recently released its half-year earnings results for the period ended 30th September 2019, showing a significant growth in its customer base and revenue.

The telco's customer base increased by 10% to 104 million, while revenue rose by 8.4% in the second quarter of the year.

According to the financial report, Airtel Africa experienced growth in all its services, including voice, data, and mobile money, which rose by 3.2%, 37.8%, and 46.5% respectively.

However, the company's mobile money services in East Africa fell behind those of Safaricom M-pesa and Equitel.

East Africa saw a 5.8% growth in revenue, the financial report stated.

Airtel Africa plans to invest in its 4G network quality to enhance high-speed connectivity, having completed the network modernization exercise in nine countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, Rwanda, Congo B, Gabon, Madagascar, and Seychelles.

The company also confirmed that it is still pursuing a merger deal with Telkom Kenya.
