On Sunday, a shocking incident occurred at the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) facility in Mariakani, Kilifi County, where a soldier's actions led to the serious injury of his colleague and ultimately, his own death.

Sergeant Daniel Ngugi Njenga, 50, who was the guard commander on duty, ran amok and fired indiscriminately inside the guardroom at the facility's gate, injuring Warrant Officer 2 David Ngerech in the right thigh.

Ngerech was rushed to Jocham Hospital, where he was admitted in stable condition. In a separate incident, Njenga shot himself in the left side of his chest and died instantly.
