Deputy President William Ruto's promises to Kibra residents during the Kibra by-election campaign have been met with intense criticism and outrage from Kenyans.
On October 28, 2019, DP Ruto campaigned for Jubilee flag bearer McDonald Mariga, promising to instantly start construction of a technical college if they elected Mariga.
DP Ruto's statement during the rally read, “Mko na shida ya maji Kibra. Mko na shida ya barabara Kibra. Mna shida giza Kibra. Kuna njia moja ya kuondoa hizi shida zote, ni kuchagu Mariga ambaye atafanya kazi na serikali ya Jubilee kuleta maendeleo.”
He also promised to construct affordable houses in Kibra under Jubilee aspirant Mariga's leadership, which would create jobs for youths in the Kibra slum constituency.
However, netizens have been quick to point out that DP Ruto has not delivered on his promises made in 2013, including constructing 5 stadiums and offering paid internships to the youth, which he has failed to achieve.
DP Ruto's empty promises have left many questioning what he has done for Kibra residents in the seven years he has been in power.
