On October 12, 2019, a 14-year-old girl from Embu West Sub-county found herself in a desperate situation after her mother accused her of stealing Sh20.
Desperate and alone, the girl was approached by a boda boda operator, Lincoln Mukundi, who offered to help her in exchange for spending the night with him.
Mukundi took the girl to his house, where he allegedly defiled her twice, before dropping her back home the next morning and returning the stolen Sh20.
Neighbours who witnessed the incident informed the girl's worried mother, who then reported the matter to the police.
Lincoln Mukundi was subsequently arrested and arraigned before Embu Resident Magistrate Jean Ndengeri, where he denied the charges and requested to be released on bond.
The magistrate granted his request, but Mukundi was unable to afford the Sh500,000 bond and was instead escorted to Embu remand Prison.
