On October 28, 2019, barely three weeks after Speaker Beatrice Elachi resumed work, 67 Jubilee MCAs in the Nairobi County Assembly launched a second bid to have her impeached from her position.
Led by Jubilee Majority Leader Abdi Guyo, the MCAs claim there are plans to cause chaos when the assembly resumes sittings on Tuesday, in an attempt to scuttle their plans to oust Speaker Elachi from office.
Majority Whip Waithera Chege stated, 'We support the impeachment plans on Speaker Elachi and will do everything possible to make sure she is kicked out of office.'
The MCAs have also accused Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju of meddling with the affairs of the County and warned him to keep off. Two weeks ago, Tuju convened a meeting with all Jubilee MCAs and urged them to work together with Speaker Elachi, citing that the wrangles were affecting the operations of the county assembly.
