Published on October 28, 2019, a Nairobi Environment and Lands Court ordered the closure of four popular nightclubs in the city due to excessive noise.

The clubs, Kiza Lounge, Space Lounge, Explorers Tavern, and B-Club, have been a thorn in the side of Kilimani residents who have been complaining about the noise emanating from these establishments.

Justice Loise Komingoi, who presided over the case, ruled that the clubs were in contravention of the Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA) 2009, specifically the Noise and Excessive Vibration Pollution Control Regulations.

The judge further ordered the revocation of the liquor licenses of the four clubs by the Nairobi County administration.

This is not the first time the clubs have been in trouble. In January 2018, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) closed down three of the clubs following complaints from area residents. However, the clubs continued to operate.

Earlier this year, Kiza Lounge's owner, Oumarou Moumouni Ali, was deported from the country after being accused of being a leader of an international criminal gang.
