Manchester United's World Cup-winning midfielder Paul Pogba has been dealt a significant blow after being ruled out until December due to an ankle injury.

The latest setback for Pogba comes after he struggled with the injury since August, featuring in just five Premier League matches this season.

It was hoped that Pogba would return for Manchester United's Carabao Cup clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, but Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has poured cold water on the speculation.

"I don't think we'll see Paul maybe before December. He'll be out for a while. He needs time to fully, fully recover, so I don't think he'll be back," Solskjaer said.

"Maybe after the international break - but probably December before you see him. I'm not the doctor, but there is an injury there that needs healing. It is his ankle rather than his foot," Solskjaer added.

Pogba suffered the injury in Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Southampton at St Mary's before returning in the Carabao Cup against Rochdale.

He then featured five days later in United's 1-1 draw with Arsenal on September 30 but has been out of action ever since.
