On October 28, 2019, Rift Valley Regional Coordinator George Natembeya was at the center of a controversy surrounding the eviction of families from the Mau Forest.
Nominated Member of Parliament Gideon Keter has vowed to take legal action against Natembeya over alleged harassment in the ongoing Mau Forest evictions.
Speaking in Chepagundi in Kuresoi, Keter said he had asked his lawyer to immediately serve the local chiefs, Assistant County Commissioners (ACC), and Deputy County Commissioner with cautionary letters to stop using unconstitutional orders to frustrate families hosted in a private land in the area.
"We are all legal citizens in a sovereign country governed by the rule of law. So nobody should use the laws meant to protect us to torture us for their own benefit. We will face them," he said.
According to Keter, Natembeya had used his position to torture 1,200 families who were hosted by a well-wisher in Kuresoi after they were kicked out of their homes in Maasai Mau.
He further defended the resident, Samuel Tanui, who is being threatened with arrest orders for volunteering to host the needy families.
"These are the people who voted for our government and they are not living in Kenya by accident so Natembeya should not behave as if he is a Kenyan more than us," he said.
