Published on October 28, 2019, AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda has confirmed the club is facing a severe financial crisis.

The club has debts totaling Sh15 million, with a monthly wage bill of Sh4.2 million, and Shikanda believes only registered members can provide a lifeline.

"We inherited a lot of debts and it is a huge challenge," Shikanda said. "Before we came in, the club had a sponsorship of Sh52 million from SportPesa, which was only paying salaries."

Shikanda is now planning a major fundraiser on Thursday at the Crown Plaza Hotel to jumpstart the club's financial coffers.

"The fundraising through the paybill and the USSD code haven't been sufficient as we had envisioned," Shikanda added. "We know the fundraiser is not a permanent solution, but it would be a good start to at least sort the player salaries and allowances."

Shikanda expressed confidence in the playing unit, saying they have what it takes to win the league. AFC Leopards are currently second on the log with 14 points, one behind rivals Gor Mahia who have two games in hand.
