On October 26, 2019, the 6th annual African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMAs) took place in Dallas, Texas, recognizing African artists for their unique talents and achievements.

Kenyan songbird Esther Akoth, better known as Akothee, was crowned the best female artiste in East Africa, beating out other big names in the region, including Victoria Kimani and Fena Gitu from Kenya, and Vanessa Mdee and Nandy from Tanzania.

Kimani had won the title the previous year, but Akothee's victory marked a new chapter in her illustrious music career.

Other notable winners included Mzazi Willy M. Tuva, who took home the award for Africa's best radio and TV presenter, and DJ Posion Ivy, who became the first female Kenyan DJ to work with the NBA's Dallas Mavericks.
