On October 25, 2019, the Labour Court ruled in favour of former Harambee Stars coach Bobby Williamson, awarding him Sh55 million for unlawful dismissal by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa.
Williamson was sacked by Mwendwa in 2016 and replaced by Stanley Okumbi. He had been in court for four years, seeking justice for his dismissal.
FKF president Nick Mwendwa has expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling and has announced plans to appeal. In a statement, Mwendwa said, “Out of respect for the coach and Kenyan football, I will not talk much but justice that has been done.”
However, Mwendwa is still seeking justice, citing several reasons for Williamson's dismissal, including the fact that he had never been paid any salary in his account, had no work permit, and was not registered with the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) or the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
It is worth noting that Mwendwa is facing another challenge, as the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne has awarded another former Harambee Stars coach, Adel Amrouche, Sh108 million for unfair dismissal.
