Nairobi Police Recover 260 Stolen Phones from Kayole Repair Shop ¶
On October 28, 2019, Nairobi police recovered 260 stolen phones from a repair shop in Kayole, with some phones found in a Nairobi market and others in a Kayole shop.
According to Nairobi News, the police operation was led by Inspector Noor Abdi from the Kamukunji police station.
Seven suspects were arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen goods. The suspects, identified as Brown Munundi Ukutoyi, Moses Njuguna Muchunga, and Benjamin Onjiambo, were later released on a KSh 50,000 bond.
However, the police have vowed to pursue the case, with Kamanda wa polisi kaunti ndogo ya Nairobi ya Kati Stanley Atavachi stating that the suspects will be charged until they prove their innocence.
The police used an International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) tracker to identify the owners of the stolen phones and those who had reported the theft.
Atavachi said, "Watu hao saba watashtakiwa na wizi wa mabavu na pia kumiliki mali iliyoibwa kwa sababu kulingana nasi ni wahalifu hadi watakapothibitisha kuwa hawakuhusika."
