On October 28, 2019, a dispute between Ida Odinga and her daughter-in-law Lwam Getachew Bekele over Fidel Odinga's estate took a new turn when the mother of twins at the centre of the dispute, Phoebe Akinyi Ogweno, joined the court battle.
Ms Ogweno, in an affidavit filed in court, stated that she wanted to join the case to clear the air and give her position in the matter.
Her application will be heard on November 13, 2019, the same day Justice Aggrey Muchelule had directed Mrs Odinga and Ms Bekele to return to court after conducting DNA tests on the twins.
Justice Arsenath Ongeri certified the application as urgent and directed Ms Ogweno to serve both Mrs Odinga and Ms Bekele with the court papers.
Ms Ogweno's lawyer, John Swaka, stated that the tussle pits Mrs Odinga and her daughter Winnie on one side and Ms Bekele on the other, leaving Ms Ogweno and her children in between.
Ms Ogweno seeks to join the case to protect her children's interests and clear the air on the matter.
