On October 28, 2019, Kenya's land ministry announced a fresh bid to digitize land records and deals, a move that could end decades-old instances of missing files and altered records.

The ministry plans to establish an online transaction portal, which will enable users to securely administer, value, report, and bulk process land registration instruments, data conversion, and have an extraction module integrated to the revenue systems.

The new platform aims to restrict access to authorized individuals, complete an audit trail of all document edits, and allow for printing or saving in electronic form for submission to regulatory bodies or agencies.

According to the ministry, the lands information management system (Lims) could be up and running by next year after it invited software developers to set up and operationalize the platform.

The ministry's move comes four years after the first attempt was shot down by lawyers who argued that their role would be rendered redundant.
