On October 28, 2019, a tragic incident occurred at a funeral in Homa Bay County, leaving mourners in shock.

A pastor, Samson Ongei, was presiding over the burial ceremony of a female member of his church at Sero Village, Kalanya Kanyango Location.

However, the ceremony took a violent turn when a group of bodaboda riders stormed the scene, accusing Ongei of robbery with violence.

According to eyewitnesses, the riders claimed that Ongei was part of a gang that had recently robbed one of their colleagues.

Philip Ogweno, a local, described the scene as chaotic, saying that the riders 'cut short the sermon' and attacked Ongei.

Ongei was forced to sit on a bike and taken to his house in Ojunge village, where he was locked in and the house was set ablaze.

Kalanya Kanyango Chief, Fredrick Onyango, confirmed the incident and warned locals against mob justice, urging them to report crime suspects to security officials.

“I urge residents to avoid taking the law in their hands. They should report crime suspects to security officials,” said Onyango.
