On October 28, 2019, Boondocks Gang, a Kenyan music group, made headlines after they fired back at Masterpiece and fellow gospel artistes who had criticized them for their music.

Boondocks Gang, consisting of Mr. Mukuruweng, Xray (Utaniua), and Odi wa Murang'a (Mr. ThoboThobo), have been at the center of controversy for their lyrics and style, which some have deemed 'immoral'.

However, in a recent interview, the group's members explained that they are not interested in being part of the 'virtue signaling' crowd and that they are proud to be part of the Gengeton movement, which has brought a new wave of music to Kenya.

Boondocks Gang also accused gospel artistes of being jealous of their success and of being 'broke' themselves.

Masterpiece, in particular, was called out by the group for his hypocrisy, with one of the members saying, 'Masterpiece, huyo msee munasema sijjui Masterpice ni hypocrite. Hawa wasee unaweza patana naye kwa club. Hawa wasee wako mtaani waukata mbaya sana. Wanakupima tuhapa hivi. Kazi ni kupimanisha tu watu.'

Willy Paul was also mentioned in the interview, with the group questioning his motives for releasing a song like 'Lamba Nyonyo'.

Do you agree with Boondocks Gang or with Masterpiece and fellow gospel artistes on the matter? And do you think Kenyan gospel artistes are a scam?
