On October 28, 2019, a court case involving the estate of the late Fidel Odinga took a new turn when the mother of his twins, Phoebe Akinyi Ogweno, filed an application to join the case.
Ms Ogweno, in an affidavit, stated that she wanted to join the case to clear the air and give her position on the matter, which has been a subject of dispute between Ida Odinga and her daughter-in-law Lwam Getachew Bekele.
According to the affidavit, Ms Ogweno and her children have been left in the middle of the dispute, with both sides vying for control of Fidel's assets.
Ms Ogweno's application will be heard on November 13, the same day that Justice Aggrey Muchelule had directed Mrs Odinga and Ms Bekele to return to court after conducting DNA tests on the twins.
Justice Arsenath Ongeri certified the application as urgent and directed Ms Ogweno to serve both Mrs Odinga and Ms Bekele with the court papers.
Ms Ogweno's lawyer, John Swaka, stated that his client sought to join the case to clear the air and give her position on the matter.
Ms Bekele had previously filed an application for control over Fidel's assets, which Mrs Odinga claimed was done secretly and without their knowledge or consent.
Ms Odinga had also claimed that Ms Bekele had intermeddled with the estate and that her main interest was to protect, safeguard, and guarantee the well-being of her grandchildren.
