Heavy rains have once again put City Park in the spotlight, with the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Premier League clash between Parklands and USIU being abandoned in the second half due to the poor state of the turf.

On Sunday, October 27, 2019, the event came a fortnight after two men's KHU league matches were rescheduled for similar reasons, with heavy downpour rendering the pitch unplayable.

Parklands coach Victor Bogonko and his USIU counterpart Wilson Otieno have urged the Government to take action and salvage the situation, calling for the construction of alternatives to save the overused facility.

According to Bogonko, 'The turf is in a shambolic state. It is worn off and is completely unable to drain water away once it starts raining. It's unfortunate for the union because talent will surely go to waste.'

He also lamented that 'The union should get a new turf that has underground drainage to avoid water from clogging.'

USIU coach Wilson Otieno emphasized the need for urgent renovations on the pitch, saying that the current state of the turf poses a great injury risk for the players.
