October 28, 2019, marked a somber day for the family of late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso, who passed away three months ago due to cancer. Her husband, Edwin Abonyo, and their children were left to deal with the aftermath of her death.

Abonyo's experience was further complicated by the hefty hospital bills that accumulated during his wife's treatment. The bills, which rose to Ksh. 2 million, were initially covered by the state and friends, but Abonyo revealed that the family is still receiving claims of unpaid bills.

Abonyo expressed his gratitude to friends who helped him with the hospital bills, including Nairobi Speaker Beatrice Elachi, who visited them in London and spent nights with the governor at Nairobi Hospital. He also praised CAS Rachel Shebesh, governors Anne Waiguru and Charity Ngilu, for their genuine friendship.

However, Abonyo's experience with politicians has left a sour taste in his mouth. He criticized them for their dishonesty, saying, "Politicians are notorious liars. In fact, when we heard what they would say, we sometimes just retreated with Brian to laugh."

Abonyo's appointment to the state parastatals oversight board has sparked speculation that it was a move by the President to wipe his tears. Abonyo responded by saying, "If it is so, I'm grateful. If not so, I'm even more grateful."

Abonyo's family is still reeling from the loss of their loved one, and the unpaid hospital bills have added to their burden. The London hospital's demand for Ksh. 2 million in arrears has left Abonyo and his son, Brian, in a difficult situation.
