On October 28, 2019, Nairobi police confirmed that Hillary Wachira, a notorious wanted drug dealer, was in lawful custody six months after he escaped from the police in Mathare, Nairobi County.

Wachira, who was on the police radar as one of the most wanted criminals in Nairobi, was arrested after police laid an ambush along Limuru Road and found prohibited substances in his car.

Police also arrested Wachira's girlfriend, Caroline Nyambura Gituma, a JKUAT student, after 50 packets of what is believed to have been heroin were found in her hostel room at the university's Juja Campus.

Gituma is said to be Wachira's roommate and girlfriend. Police stated that Wachira and his companion are merely peddlers with the main suppliers believed to have a steady network within the city.
