On October 27, 2019, Fred Gumo, popularly known as 'Kaa Ngumu,' made a grand return to the ODM Party, two years after joining Jubilee and telling Raila Odinga to retire in Bondo.

Gumo, a former MP for Westlands from 1994 to 2013, is a well-known figure in Nairobi politics. He was among the Luhyia leaders in the constituency to accompany Raila Odinga for the Laini Saba rally.

At the rally, Gumo said, 'When you see me waking up and coming up here, then you know that I have seen very far. This is to show that there is something that could go wrong and when we see that something could go wrong we have to come here. Luhyas will you support Okoth?'

Gumo's return to ODM is a significant boost to the party, especially in the Kibra constituency, where the Luhya and Luo communities are the majority. The community has traditionally backed Raila, and their voting pattern is expected to sway the outcome of the mini-poll.

Other ODM leaders, including Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, rallied voters to back Imran. They claimed that ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang'ula were being used to frustrate the unity pact between Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
