President Uhuru Kenyatta's recent foreign tour to Japan and Russia has raised eyebrows over the cost of a luxurious private jet hired for the trip.
According to reports, the Airbus A318-112 (CJ) Elite A6-CAS was hired from Dubai-based Constellation Aviation Services (CAS) for the duration of the trip.
With a capacity for 19 people, the customized jet features three spacious cabins, a VIP lounge, private office, luxurious lavatory, and high-speed internet.
While the exact cost of hiring the plane remains unknown, Sunday Nation reported that it costs Sh1.5 million per hour, translating to Sh36 million per day.
Given that President Kenyatta used the jet for at least five days, the total cost could be in the hundreds of millions of shillings.
During the trip, President Kenyatta attended the Enthronement of Emperor Naruhito in Japan and the inaugural Russia-Africa Summit in Sochi, Russia.
