Akothee and Ommy Dimpoz Sweep Awards at Afrimma 2019 ¶
Kenyan singer Akothee and Tanzanian musician Ommy Dimpoz made headlines at the 2019 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMMA) held in Dallas, USA, on October 27, 2019.

Akothee made history by carrying the Kenyan flag high and emerged as the Best Female East Africa artist at the awards. She was competing against Vinka from Uganda, Victoria Kimani from Kenya, Vanessa Mdee from Tanzania, Nandy from Tanzania, Sheebah Karungi from Uganda, Fena Gitu (Fenamenal) from Kenya, Knowles Butera from Rwanda, Rema Namakula from Uganda, and Juliana Kanyomozi from Uganda.
Ommy Dimpoz, on the other hand, carried the Tanzanian flag high and emerged as the Best Male East Africa artist at the awards. He was competing against Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania, Alikiba, Diamond Platnumz, Harmonize, Rayvanny, Khaligraph Jones, Nyashinski, and others.
Other notable winners at the awards include Fally Ipupa from Congo, who emerged as the Best Male Central Africa artist, and Burna Boy from Nigeria, who emerged as the Artist of the Year.
The AFRIMMA awards are held annually since December 27, 2014, and are organized by the International Committee AFRIMA in partnership with the African Union to celebrate and promote the work of artists, talents, and creativity across Africa.
