Published on October 28, 2019, Arsenal's Premier League campaign hit a snag as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Crystal Palace at Emirates Stadium.
Granit Xhaka's captaincy was marred by a dismal display, with the Swiss midfielder being booed off the pitch after an hour. Xhaka's response to the jeers was to cup his hand to his ear and storm down the tunnel, removing his shirt in the process.
The hosts had taken a commanding 2-0 lead within nine minutes, thanks to goals from Sokratis Papastathopoulos and David Luiz, who capitalized on slack defending from Nicolas Pepe's corners.
However, Palace's fortunes changed when a lengthy video assistant referee review overturned an initial booking for simulation against Wilfried Zaha. The decision was made after on-field referee Martin Atkinson was overruled, with Calum Chambers adjudged to have fouled Zaha, resulting in a penalty being awarded.
Luka Milivojevic confidently converted the spot kick, and Palace's momentum continued as Jordan Ayew headed in at the back post from James McArthur's cross shortly after the interval.
A dramatic late winner for Arsenal was denied by VAR, which disallowed Sokratis' goal for a foul by Chambers in the build-up.
Arsenal remain fifth in the table, one point above sixth-placed Crystal Palace and four points adrift of Chelsea in fourth.
