Israeli politicians Benny Gantz and Benjamin Netanyahu met for coalition talks on Sunday, marking their first direct discussion since President Reuven Rivlin tasked Gantz with forming a government on Wednesday.
Following the deadlocked elections on September 17, Netanyahu had attempted to form a coalition but ultimately gave up on October 21, his second such failure this year.
Although a joint statement from Netanyahu's Likud and Gantz's Blue and White alliance after the meeting hinted at further discussions, it did not indicate any significant breakthrough.
"The two discussed the structure of political options available," the statement read. "Another meeting is anticipated between the two."
