On Sunday, Deputy President William Ruto led a section of Jubilee leaders to drum up support for McDonald Mariga in the Kibra by-election, scheduled for November 7.

Speaking in Kibra, Ruto promised residents that the government would initiate a programme to construct decent houses under an affordable plan, with residents paying Ksh.4,000 or Ksh.5,000 per month, after which the house would be theirs.

"If you elect Mariga on November 7, on November 8 we shall sit down with him so that by next year we have a training college here," Ruto said, adding that the construction projects would tap on local labour, providing a source of livelihood for thousands of jobless individuals in the area.

However, the DP condemned the chaotic incidents witnessed in the ongoing Kibra by-election campaigns, urging the various parties to maintain peace.

On Sunday, chaos erupted at Kamukunji grounds in Kibra after rowdy youth disrupted an Amani National Congress (ANC) rally led by party leader Musalia Mudavadi.
