Heavy rains that lashed through Kisumu County on Saturday evening have left a trail of destruction and loss of life.

According to reports, one person was swept away by raging waters and later found dead in Kotetni village in Kisumu West Sub-county on Sunday morning.

The body was retrieved and taken to the mortuary for further examination.

Meanwhile, in Nyakach Sub-county, a family narrowly escaped death when a huge tree fell on their house, destroying it completely.

The house belonged to area village elder Joshua Oriema, whose family managed to escape unhurt but are now homeless.

Chief Kennedy Omondi of Kabodho West location reported that over 15 farms and homes were destroyed in the downpour, and he is compiling a list of those affected to seek help from the Kenya Red Cross.
