Published on October 27, 2019, a family in Nyamira County is facing a daunting challenge as their one-year-old daughter, Laura Bonita, requires an urgent open-heart surgery that costs over Sh1 million.

According to the clinical report authored by Prof Christine Jowi at the Kijabe Mission Hospital, Laura has a large atrial septal defect, secundum type, which requires immediate correction to prevent the mixing of blood.

Her parents, Winnie Moseti and Charles Osinde, discovered the heart problem after doctors recommended a repair of the cleft pallet, which they had initially planned to do.

However, the doctor who compiled the anesthesia report advised against the cleft repair, citing that the heart could not withstand anesthesia in its current state.

Dr. Jack Magara, a pediatrician, emphasized that the condition is normal in infants but must be solved as fast as possible to prevent fatal consequences.

Despite desperate efforts to raise funds through social media platforms, the family has only managed to raise Sh60,000, leaving a significant gap of Sh940,000.
