On October 27, 2019, a shocking incident unfolded in the Kenyan police force when a serving officer was arrested for trafficking illicit drugs.
Mr. Paul Karuga Njoroge, a police officer with the number 78760 and stationed at the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) in Isiolo, was apprehended by his colleagues from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) at the DCI Headquarters.
According to the police report, Mr. Karuga was found in possession of 139kg of bhang, a controlled substance, in a Mitsubishi lorry with the registration number KCJ 474A.
He was arrested along the Nanyuki-Nairobi highway on October 14, and the officer will be escorted to Nanyuki for further action, as stated in the police report.
Mr. Karuga's arrest is not an isolated incident, as another officer serving an interdiction was arrested with police uniforms on the same day.
Both officers are expected to be separately arraigned in court on Monday.
