On October 27, 2019, a devastating shooting occurred at a Texas A&M University-Commerce homecoming party in Greenville, Texas, leaving two people dead and at least 12 others injured.
The incident unfolded when sheriff's deputies responded to a complaint about illegally parked cars on Highway 380. However, their presence did not deter the gunman, who opened fire on partygoers with a handgun around midnight.
According to Sheriff Randy Meeks, the gunman had entered the party through a back door and targeted a specific individual, while the other victims were shot at random.
Despite the presence of around 750 partygoers, many of whom were students from the nearby university, not all were cooperative with investigators. Fortunately, no officers were injured in the incident.
While officials initially believed the gunman used a semiautomatic rifle, they later confirmed it was a handgun. The shooting took place about 50 miles northeast of Dallas, and the injured partygoers hailed from various Texas cities, including Arlington, Commerce, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Greenville.
