DP Ruto Attends Church Service with Aisha Jumwa Days After Her Release on Bail ¶
Deputy President William Ruto attended a church service at the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) in Karatina, Nyeri County, on October 27, where he was joined by Aisha Jumwa, a prominent MP from Malindi.
According to photos shared on social media, Jumwa was seen sitting on the right side of Ruto, while Embakasi North MP James Mwangi Gakuya sat in the middle. Jumwa was dressed in a beautiful floral kitenge, which was a sign of her faith and devotion.
After the service, Jumwa took to her Facebook and Twitter accounts to share a Bible verse from 31:6, which read: 'Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you.'
It is unclear whether Jumwa was seeking spiritual guidance or trying to send a message to her supporters, but the verse seemed to resonate with her current situation. Just days before, Jumwa had been released on bail after being accused of murder in connection with the death of Ngumbao Jola, a witness who was shot dead during a confrontation with her supporters.
On October 15, Jumwa had clashed with supporters of Reuben Katana Mwamure, a newly elected diwan, and the violence had resulted in the death of one person. Jumwa and her ally, Geoffrey Okuto Otieno, were arrested and later released on a KSh 500,000 bail after denying the murder charges.
However, the incident had sparked widespread outrage, with some politicians calling for Jumwa's resignation. The ODM party had also expelled her after she was accused of supporting William Ruto's presidential bid in 2022.
