Kenyan Valary Jemeli Breaks 2-Hour Barrier at Frankfurt Marathon

On October 27, 2019, Kenyan athlete Valary Jemeli made history by becoming the first woman to break the 2-hour barrier at the Frankfurt Marathon, clocking an impressive 2 hours 19 minutes and 10 seconds.

Competing against a strong field, including Ethiopian runners Wondimagegn Assefa and Alemu Kebede, Jemeli set a blistering pace from the start and maintained it throughout the race to secure the gold medal.

Kebede, who was Jemeli's closest challenger, finished second to take the silver medal, while Assefa secured third place with a time of 2 hours 22 minutes and 11 seconds.

Other Kenyan athletes, Lonar Chemtai and Rotich Cheptanui, also participated in the race but failed to make it to the podium.
