On October 20, 2019, a luxurious Airbus 318 Elite jet, owned by Dubai-based Aviation Company Constellation, touched down in Mombasa, marking the beginning of President Uhuru Kenyatta's 5-day trip to Japan and Tokyo.
The customized jet, with registration number A6-CAS, was hired by the government for a staggering Ksh36 million per day, making it one of the most expensive presidential getaways in recent history.
Flight records show that the aircraft arrived in Mombasa at 5:33 p.m. and left the coastal city at 8:24 p.m., presumably with President Uhuru on board.
Despite its luxurious features, including an entourage lounge, VIP dining area, and private office, the jet can only accommodate 19 people, a far cry from its maximum capacity of 200 passengers.
The exact amount spent by the government to hire the Airbus for the 5-day trip remains unclear, but one thing is certain - it was a costly affair.
