On October 27, 2019, Moses Kuria, a member of parliament from Gatundu, publicly criticized Aden Duale, the Majority Leader, for his stance on the proposed leadership structure for Kenya.

According to Kuria, Duale's statements are merely a ploy to convince members of parliament from the Mt. Kenya region to reject the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Speaking on his Facebook page, Kuria stated that Duale's intentions are far from genuine, as he is already planning to become the head of state and therefore cannot support the proposed leadership structure.

On the other hand, Aden Duale has stated that members of parliament from the Mt. Kenya region should accept the proposed leadership structure, which would see the president elected by parliament.

Speaking on his Facebook page, Duale stated, "Hili litahakikisha mashindano ya uchaguzi utakuwa kwenye maeneo bunge na wala si Bomas na katika mahakama ya upeo." He also added, "Mawaziri pia watatoka bunge na Waziri Mkuu atakuwa akijibu maswali bungeni kutoka kwa wawakilishi wa wananchi."

Members of parliament from the Mt. Kenya region have stated that they will not accept the proposed leadership structure, which would see the president elected by parliament. They prefer the current system, where the president is elected by the people through a one-man, one-vote system.
