On Sunday, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed appeared on Citizen TV to address the recent criticism she and her ministry have faced over the alleged stranding of Kenya's netball team in South Africa.
According to reports, the team had traveled to Cape Town to participate in the 2019 Africa Netball Championship, but was left stranded due to alleged ministry negligence.
However, Amina denied the allegations, stating that her integrity remains intact and that she has never stolen anything. 'I've never stolen anything,' she said, laughing off claims that she could have slept on the job.
Responding to media reports, Amina noted that the articles were negative and inaccurate. 'We worked very hard to ensure that they (netball team) were able to travel,' she explained. 'If there is a story out there that is negative and that is not correct, we will take action.'
Amina also highlighted her achievements in the ministry, including her strong involvement with Kenya's teams at the 2019 Africa Games in Morocco and the IAAF World Athletics Championships held in Doha. 'We supported the team that went to Morocco, we supported the team that went to Doha and I was there myself,' she said.
She added that the ministry is open to scrutiny and engagement, saying 'Our doors are open; the PS is accessible and I'm accessible.'
